In accordance with Section 249 of the Local Government Act 1972 a resolution to confer the title of Honorary Alderman must be passed by not less than a two-thirds majority of the Members voting.  The Council is asked to pass the following resolution:

“That this Council in pursuance of Section 249 of the Local Government Act 1972 do confer upon Mr Mike Haywood the title of Honorary Alderman in recognition of the valuable service given to the Council over the past 12 years.”

Councillor Angela Harrison proposed and Councillor Tony Winckless seconded that Mr Mike Haywood be awarded the title of Honorary Alderman.  The Leader spoke in support of the nomination.

Upon being put to the vote and agreed unanimously, the Mayor presented Mr Mike Haywood with a scroll and plaque to reflect this honour and presented Ms Georgie Jessiman with flowers.  Honorary Alderman Mike Haywood gave a short speech in recognition of this award.

RESOLVED:

(1) That this Council, in pursuance of Section 249 of the Local Government Act 1972, confer upon Mr Mike Haywood the title of Honorary Alderman, in recognition of the valuable service given to the Council by Mr Mike Haywood as a past Member of the Council.
