MINUTES of the Meeting held at West Faversham Community Centre, Bysing Wood Road, Faversham on Tuesday 14 May 2013 from 7:00 pm to 7:45 pm.

Present: Councillor Sue Gent (Mayor), Councillor Bobbin (Deputy Mayor), Councillors Barnicott, Monique Bonney, Andy Booth, Bowles, Derek Conway, Mike Cosgrove, Adrian Crowther, Duncan Dewar-Whalley, June Garrad, Ed Gent, Nicholas Hampshire, Harrison, Mike Haywood, Lesley Ingham, Gerry Lewin, Peter Marchington, Martin McCusker, Bryan Mulhern, Prescott, Pat Sandle, David Sargent, David Simmons, Adam Tolhurst, Roger Truelove, Anita Walker, Ghlin Whelan, Ted Wilcox, Alan Willicombe, Jean Willicombe, Tony Winckless, Steve Worrall and John Wright.

Officers Present: Heather Elliott, Joanne Hammond, Abdool Kara and Chris Lovelock.

prayers

Pastor Joe Gregory opened the Meeting with a prayer.

appointment of mayor

The retiring Mayor advised that the decision to appoint a Mayor elect had been taken at the Council meeting on 20 March 2013 and it had been resolved that Councillor Sue Gent be elected Mayor for the civic year 2013/14. Councillor Anita Walker endorsed the decision to elect Councillor Sue Gent as Mayor with a short speech. Councillor Ed Gent seconded the endorsement with a short speech. The Mayor read out and signed her Declaration of Acceptance of Office and was presented with her badge of office and flowers.

RESOLVED:

(1) That the decision made at the Council meeting on 20 March 2013 to elect Councillor Sue Gent as Mayor for the 2013/14 civic year be endorsed.

the forthcoming mayoral year

The Mayor thanked Members for her election and looked forward to her year in office. She advised that her chosen charities for her civic year were the Royal British Legion and Help for Heroes.

vote of thanks to the retiring mayor

Councillor Lesley Ingham proposed and Councillor Bowles seconded a vote of
thanks to Councillor Pat Sandle for her work as Mayor throughout the 2012/13 civic
year. The Mayor presented Councillor Sandle with a civic shield, a scroll, a past
Mayors badge and mementos of her term of office.

The retiring Mayor made a speech in response and presented her Cadet, Cadet
Corporal Tiffany Anderson, 2316 Sheppey Squadron Air Training Corps with a gift.

appointment of deputy mayor

The Mayor advised that the decision to appoint a Deputy Mayor elect had been taken at the Council meeting on 20 March 2013 and it had been resolved that Councillor George Bobbin be elected Deputy Mayor for the civic year 2013/14. Councillor David Simmons endorsed the decision to elect Councillor Bobbin as Deputy Mayor with a short speech. Councillor Andy Booth seconded the endorsement with a short speech. The Deputy Mayor read out and signed his Declaration of Acceptance of Office and was presented with his badge of office. The Deputy Mayor announced that Ms Brenda Le Pavoux would be his Deputy Mayoress for the civic year and she was presented with her badge of office and flowers.

RESOLVED:

(1) That the decision made at the Council meeting on 20 March 2013 to elect Councillor Bobbin as Deputy Mayor for the 2013/14 civic year be endorsed.

appointment of the mayor's cadet

The Mayor announced that she would be appointing Cadet Corporal Jake Hanley from the Army Cadet Force, Sittingbourne Detachment as the Mayor's Cadet for the forthcoming civic year and presented him with a cadet badge for his uniform.

appointment of the mayor's chaplain

The Mayor announced that she had appointed Reverend James Pettit from St. Michael's Church in Sittingbourne as her Chaplain for the forthcoming civic year.

concluding prayers

Pastor Joe Gregory, the retiring Mayor's Chaplain, concluded the meeting with prayers. The Mayor reminded Members that the second part of the Annual Council meeting would be held the following evening starting at 7pm in the Council Chamber, Swale House. She then invited all Members and guests to join her for light refreshments.
